We're casting six storytellers for an evening of stories told by candlelight to a seated room of fifty. Not an open mic. A cast.

Who we're looking for

People who can hold a room. Storytellers who are entertainers first: a voice that carries, pacing that knows when to slow down, the confidence to let a silence sit. Eloquent, thoughtful, and unafraid of an audience that is listening closely.

Audition with anything from your body of work. Nobody writes something new to apply. If you are cast, you bring a piece for that night's theme: yours, public domain, or one you have permission to perform, true or not. Seven minutes, read from the page or told from memory.

What cast storytellers get

  • A paid seat in the cast
  • A recording of your performance, yours to keep
  • Three complimentary tickets for your guests
  • A shot at the $150 prize. The night's winner also takes a seat in the quarterly final, where the prize is $300.

Show us how you hold a room. What you read here is not what you will perform on the night.

The kind of stories you love to read aloud and why: the places, the people, the moods.
Example: Coastal towns and the people who never left them. I like a story that is funny for six minutes and then isn't.

Anywhere you have read, performed or spoken to a live audience: a reading, theatre, an open mic, a podcast, a wedding toast that landed. 'This would be my first' is a fine answer.
How long you have been reading or telling stories, what you love to read aloud, and a link to anything else you have done. A few lines is plenty.
You'll sign the full agreement if you're cast. Rules version 1.1.
