King Arthur has been dying and returning for fifteen hundred years. The legend began in fragmented Welsh poems, became a French courtly romance, survived into English epic, and now lives in films, novels, and video games. Each era rewrites the story to fit its own concerns, and that endless revision is why the myth endures. Dr. Jennifer Boulanger examines how Arthurian literature has adapted across centuries, and what those changes reveal about the cultures that claimed him. She traces the shifts in character, tone, and meaning that allowed a medieval warlord to become a Victorian gentleman, a Cold War symbol, and a modern fantasy hero. The talk considers what makes a story durable enough to survive constant rewriting, and what gets lost or gained each time a generation makes Arthur its own.

Dr. Jennifer Boulanger
Jennifer Boulanger is an Upper School English Teacher at The Hockaday School in Dallas. She holds a Ph.D. in English with a focus in medieval and Arthurian literature from Southern Methodist University. She enjoys writing, decorating, and spending time with her husband Ryan, six-year-old son Patrick, and two dogs Lancelot du Lac and Samwise Gamgee.
