John Hinckley shot a president to impress an actress he had never met. In his mind, the relationship was already real. This talk examines how stalkers construct belief systems in which connection, reciprocity, and obligation exist long before any contact occurs. Dr. Timothy Ingram walks through the recognized typologies of stalking behavior, the mechanics of escalation from unwanted attention to credible threat, and why early warning signs are so often misread by victims and bystanders alike. The frame is forensic: how these cases are evaluated when they reach the courts, what assessors look for, and what the psychology reveals about how someone comes to believe another person already belongs to them.

Who's speaking
Timothy Alan Ingram, Psy.D.
Dr. Ingram is a clinical forensic psychologist with over thirty years of clinical experience. Within his role as a forensic psychologist, he accepts court appointments for criminal cases from District Courts in seven East Texas counties. Moreover, he provides comprehensive clinical forensic services to attorneys, both defense and prosecution, in cases where mental illness is a question of concern. Historically, he has worked within the Department of Defense, Federal Bureau of Prisons, Department of Veterans Affairs, Director of Psychological Services in Iraq and Afghanistan, and private practice.
