The title is a claim, and Will Evans has spent over a decade building the infrastructure to prove it. Since founding Deep Vellum Publishing in Dallas in 2013, he has published over 1,000 books in translation from 70 languages, making Deep Vellum the largest publisher of translated literature in the United States. This talk examines what it takes to build an alternative literary culture in Texas, on purpose, and why Dallas became the unlikely center of that effort.
