The Long Passage

Every story is a passage. This is the one the season has been traveling toward.

Three storytellers return tonight. Each of them won a night of Passages by Candlelight this season, in December, in January, in February, and each of them left that night as Wayfinder. They have nothing left to qualify for. They came back because there is one more title.

This is not a longer version of a monthly night. The stories run about twelve minutes, long enough for one to change shape while you are sitting inside it. A featured storyteller opens the evening, here for this night only. A pianist plays. There is a printed program, because this is the one worth keeping.

The stories still do not have to be true. That has been the rule since the first night and it does not change for the last one. Some of what you hear will have happened and some will have been invented for this room, and you are not being asked to sort one from the other. You are being asked to go along.

Three judges drawn from the audience decide who carried you furthest across the evening. That storyteller is crowned North Star, the winner of Volume I.

Volume I opened in December with six voices reading by candlelight to a room of strangers. It closes with three of them and one title left to give.

How the night goes

Doors at 6:00 PM. Come early, grab a drink and something to eat, settle in.
Stories at 7:00.
The crowning just before 8:00.
Afterward, stay for a glass of wine with the storytellers. The best conversations happen then.
